Training Requests and Completing Training

Step 1 - Requesting Training or Other Learning Assignments

To make a training request, you need to go to Training Workflow on Employee Self-Service (ESS) at http://mis.doe.gov/ess/ or follow the training approval process used by your office.

Step 2 - Checking on the Status of Your Training Request

If you used Training Workflow through ESS to make your training request, then all the information you need on the status of your request and the location and status of the training is available through ESS.

First, go to ESS (http://mis.doe.gov/ess/), click on Training and then Your Training Summary. Find the training you want to check and click on View on the left. All the information you need about the training is right there, including the Status on the upper right.

Second, if the training is still in request status, you have to monitor the approval and authorization process within your own organization.

  • Go to ESS (http://mis.doe.gov/ess/), log in, go to TRAINING tab, click on CHRIS Training Workflow, and then CHRIS at the CHRIS page.

  • You are now in CHRIS and click on CHRIS Workflow in the left hand column, then Training, then Inquire, and then Employee Inquiry.

  • Now you have a chart of all the training you have ever requested listed by date. Find the request you want to check and click on WF on the right hand side. Your approvers' list will pop up.

Third, two weeks prior to the start date for the training, you will receive an e-mail confirming your participation.

Fourth, if Department training has been cancelled, you will receive a telephone call as well as an e-mail at least 10 days before the start date.

Fifth, your Training Consultant at Department of Energy - HC - HC Contacts will help you out if you need additional information.

Step 3 - Closing Out Training - Evaluation and Continued Service Agreements

When your learning and development assignment is completed it is not over. You need to wrap it up first for yourself and second to meet DOE requirements. At the end of the training, the instructor should ask you to complete an evaluation form that asks you to assess the actual training itself. When you return to work you need to complete a Training Evaluation Form and discuss it with your supervisor before forwarding it to your office's Training Consultant so that training event can be closed out.
