For Potential Applicants

The Career Intern Program (CIP) is one means of addressing DOE's succession planning needs and, along with other entry-level hiring mechanisms, supports the President's Human Capital Management initiative. The program is decentralized, meaning that any DOE offices looking to hire interns will develop their own recruitment strategy and application/evaluation procedures. As workforce needs are analyzed and staffing/budget allocations permit, organizations may identify one or more CIP opportunities for their office or geographic location.

Program Opportunies

The CIP program is a 2 year entry-level employment program and offers a variety of opportunities at the GS-5 through GS-9 pay levels with the possibility for rapid advancement with successful completion of program requirements. Positions are available throughout the year and include opportunities in areas ranging from scientific, engineering, accounting, math, statistics, and program management, to administrative or business. To help get everyone off to a quick start the program offers development, a minimum of one rotational assignment and participants are assigned a mentor.
