Professional Development/Employee Advancement and Incentives
Training Opportunities
The DOE is committed to improving workforce performance related to its mission and strategic objectives, using a systematic approach to assess, plan, deliver, and evaluate training. This includes formal and informal training, education, developmental, and other learning assignments. The DOE will cover part or all of training activity related costs, such as tuition, fees, books, materials, equipment, salary and benefits, travel, and limited change-of-duty-station related costs. The DOE also has an active Web-based online learning center accessible from employees' desktops. Currently more than 300 online courses are available.
Career Management
The DOE has helped employees make smooth career transitions for over 12 years and we continue to help them make the most of their careers with smooth transitions from one position to another. We offer Career Coaching, Career Transition Assistance, Employment Applications Reference Materials, and Individual Development Plans and Self-Assessment/MBTI.
Promotions
Employees may be eligible for promotion to the full performance level of their position without competition if they demonstrate the ability to perform progressively responsible duties. Promotion will depend on qualifications and performance. Promotions above the full performance level generally are made competitively as vacancies occur. Opportunities also exist for reassignment to other positions for which an employee qualifies.
Awards
DOE has an incentive awards program that encourages high productivity by acknowledging superior performance. Recognition may be made through cash awards, special salary increases for performance, cash awards for suggestions, or time off from work.
